The Dude Ranch Barn Hunt Club was conceived back in 2014 when a Bouvier, a Pumi and a JRT got together. BHA was still in its early stages. It was not until 2015 that our club's application was approved. During 2016 the plans at the Dude Ranch solidified and (with the redirection of the Presidential Pet Museum), we obtained our dedicated facility. 2017 promises to be an exciting year with seminars, classes, fun tests and trials all targeted. With the help of Jan Huff (of SuperPup fame), we are poised for quite the time ahead.
Our club came together to enjoy the sport of Barn Hunt while learning from one another. We welcome those that want to work together, jump-in and help move things forward. Barn Hunt, unlike many other dog sports, depends upon its participants to actively participate in the sports success, not just by competing! Joining our list and participating regularly at our practice, training, and trials, will ensure the sport's growth in this region.
With the finalization of the facility, monthly multi-level runs in conjunction with weekly drop-in sessions are slated. Coordination with our Rat Handlers (for availability) enable convenient times for participation in both group programs as well as private practice. Our indoor facility ensures year-round enjoyment!
The club was recognized by BHA in 2015. We coordinate programs with the Dude Ranch Academy which is an AKC-oriented training program facility. BHA titles are fully recognized by the AKC, and in addition, effective 2017, the AKC has introduced AKC SCENT WORK TITLING! We're excited to work with the Academy and likely will have joint programs in the not-too-far future.
We're based at the Dude Ranch Pet Resort with 47 acres for training & events. The White House (the old Ranch Hand Bldg) has approx, 1,600 sqft (1st floor, including 400 sq ft viewing area). The building is dedicated to us, with good lighting, and easy parking. Also, access to a pavilion (2,600 sqft covered pad) that we"re adding walls & dividers, for multiple rings, blinds and viewing area.
Most of us don"t have rats at home. Makes it a bit difficult to practice. With our dedicated facility, we are set up to have runs every week as we go forward! Be notified of when the runs are and when classes are taking place. Hear about Fun Tests and Trial schedules. Join now!
Rats are a key part of Barn Hunt. We have our own rats, and our folks take care of them. Rats are employees of the club and we provide housing, food and care to ensure their wellbeing. How about joining in on the rat care?

According to the Barn Hunt association website, Barn Hunt has become the fastest growing dog sport in the U.S.A. Dogs and people both have so much fun that the popularity of the sport has exploded! EVERYONE can come and enjoy the sport, from the very first day! None of the "professional" vs "amatuer", none of the "your dog can not compete" EVERYONE is welcome! ALL BREEDS! MIXED BREEDS! As long as your dog can go through an 18" wide by bale-height-tall tunnel, you can take part! The relationship between you and your dog will skyrocket, with both of you having a great time (and hey, the comradery of the club is an EXTRA PLUS too)!
